Another Friday’s here, which means another recipe (swipe for details) and another bite of information that should inspire you to think about your food choices. There is a rising concern about global warming and what can an individual do to protect mother nature. It is well known that our dietary choices have a significant impact, but is eating a healthful diet enough or do we have to dig a bit deeper? In general, people who have good quality diets have lower environment impact than those whose diets are poor quality. Environment impact mentioned here refers to climate change, water scarcity footprint and biodiversity loss. So, the first step is definitely to follow recommendations for a more healthful diet. However, there is always more space for improvement, which can be achieved by additionally reducing consumption of meat, sweets and drinks (highly processed foods) and increasing intake of whole grains and vegetables. Along with that, environment-friendly actions are food waste reduction and less plastic usage by being intentional of food expiration dates and using reusable bags, bottles and containers. So, as you’ve seen this is a complex issue, but everyone can lead at least one step forward. We don’t think it is necessary to go into diet extremes such as veganism to make this planet a good home for present and future generations. Including a meal like this a couple of time a week is our suggestion.
